30% Of Children In North East Are Out Of School

Former Commandant, Infantry Corps Centre, Jaji, Major-General Mohammed Isa (rtd) has revealed that over 30 percent of our children of school-age have stopped school due to the security situation in the that part of the country.

He also disclosed that the situation has obviously affected foreign direct investment into Nigeria's economy as investors are now discouraged.

The former commandant, was speaking yesterday in Kaduna at a conference organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kaduna Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Also speaking at the occasion, the Vice President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu decried what he described as lack of ideological base for the nation’s political parties.

According to the NLC Vice President, the Second Republic political parties were more focused because of their tangible programmes for the development of the country.

“In those days, the UPN stood for free education, the NPN stood for houses, the PRP stood for redemption for the poor while the GNPP stood for politics without bitterness,” Aremu said.

In his paper entitled ‘Nigeria’s Economy in the 21st Century: A Determinant for 2015 Elections,’ Aremu also lamented the current infighting among the political parties.

According to him, the disagreement within the parties is not based on issues that will lead to the development of the country.

In his words, “the disagreement is not about bad roads, electricity, closed factories or massive unemployment.”
